S-Striped polecat
Striped polecat (Ictonyx striatus), also known as the African skunk, is a carnivorous mammal that lives in dry and arid climates in sub-Saharan Africa. It is about 60-70 cm long and weighs 0.6-1.3 kg. It has a black body with white stripes and a white tail. The striped polecat is an aggressive and territorial animal that marks its territory with its feces and through an anal spray. The spray serves as a defense against predators by temporarily blinding their adversaries and irritating the mucous membranes, resulting in an intense burning sensation.
It is a solitary animal and highly active during the night. It feeds mainly on rodents, but also eats snakes, lizards, scorpions, spiders, centipedes, and insects helping to control their populations. The striped polecat is categorized as least concern, but is sometimes killed by farmers for killing poultry. Other threats include habitat loss, poaching, and the illegal pet trade.
