Z-Zebra
There are three species of zebra: Grevy’s zebra, mountain zebra (Equus zebra), and plains zebra. Grevy’s zebras are the largest, Mountain zebras are the smallest, and Plains zebras (Equus quagga) are the most common found in a variety of habitats, including grasslands, savannas, and woodlands. All three species are found in Africa and are social animals that live in herds. The Grevy’s zebras (Equus grevyi) are listed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.
The main threats to Grevy’s zebras are habitat loss, poaching – hunted for their meat and hides, and disease – susceptible to a number of diseases, including anthrax and rinderpest. Zebras are preyed on by lions, leopards, and hyenas and typically flee when threatened, but can also bite and kick. Their stripes are thought to help them camouflage themselves from predators and regulate their body temperature.
