J-Jackal
The black-backed jackal (Lupulella mesomelas) is a medium-sized canine native to eastern and southern Africa. It is an opportunistic omnivore that preys on small to medium-sized animals such as rodents, birds, and reptiles. Black-backed jackals also called Silver-backed Jackals are known to scavenge carcasses and sometimes follow lions and other large cats to finish off their kills. While typically solitary, they will sometimes form packs, especially when hunting larger prey.
Black-backed jackals are important for controlling populations of pests and other small animals and are currently classified as Least Concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.
