S-Seahorse

Small, fish-like animals that live in shallow, temperate waters. They are found in a variety of habitats, including coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass beds, and estuaries. Seahorses are covered with bony plates that give them their distinctive shape.

They are excellent camouflagers and can blend in with their surroundings to avoid predators. Seahorses are ambush predators and feed on small crustaceans. They have a very simple digestive system and lack a stomach, so they must eat constantly to stay alive.

There are over 40 species of seahorses, and they are found all over the world. The West African seahorse (Hippocampus algiricus) is the only species of seahorse found in West Africa. In South Africa, the Cape seahorse (Hippocampus capensis) is a species of fish endemic to the south coast and is considered endangered.

Seahorses are harvested for ornamental trade and traditional medicine purposes.
